This two-volume work is a remarkable achievement. I am very impressed by the quality of the production, as well as by the contents and the wonderful variety of the material presented. I think it is difficult to create a really big book without making it seem overwhelming, but this one is so cleverly constructed with its different elements of articles, extracts from Gendlin, the introductions to both Focusing and PCT, the interviews with Mick Cooper and Brian Thorne, that it feels readily accessible. It is the sort of book that someone can jump into at almost any point, and find something of interest to them.
The variety of styles is also energising. Just for example, one of the editors, Judy Moore, gives a brilliant, but carefully considered, overview of the development of Focusing and of PCT, together with an account of the relationship between the two of them. I don’t think this has ever been done before. Then the contributions of the other editor, Nikos Kypriotakis, in a very different and kaleidoscopic way, bring Focusing into relationship with a vast range of other traditions. I especially like the references to Gendlin in relation to Plato and Aristotle, and the discussion of Homeric thymos.
I think that this will be a landmark publication in the Focusing world – there is nothing else like it.

I’ve enjoyed very much dipping into this very impressive publication. The volumes are beautifully presented. I’m impressed by the variety of the articles and particularly those who explore focusing from their own particular cultures. There is a nice mix of theoretical articles and articles that focus on the practice of focusing which include moving personal experiences. Reading through the articles I got in touch again with the importance of listening to the body and of the immeasurable value of being in touch with our experiencing in order to live more fully and be ourselves. Thanks so much for bringing such a wide and interesting range of focusing expertise together and bringing it to fruition in this lovely publication.
